“Fish Installation at the Iran Carpet Museum: A Dialogue Across Time”
In my latest installation at the Iran Carpet Museum, I aimed to explore a new concept. Set within a pool, the installation features a carpet adorned with the traditional “Mahi Darham” (intertwined fish) pattern. This 135-year-old masterpiece, intricately woven by the skilled artist Sarahi, holds great historical significance.
At my request, the museum allowed the carpet to remain in place, enabling my fish to interact with Sarahi’s exquisite work. With each exhibition, my fish adopt new meanings, shaped by their location and context.
On this occasion, my scarred fish engage with the aged carpet, transporting me through time: to my childhood, to cherished memories, and to the very essence of history itself.
This unique fusion of contemporary art and historical memory is embodied by the Iranian carpet. Through our fish, Sarahi and I are connected, our threads and stories interwoven into a single, powerful piece.
Our lives and tales are intertwined, all through the metaphor of fish.
